Work with Me

When my first child was born, I called my grandfather to tell him the good news. “Well,” he huffed into the phone, “It’s a crisis, but you’ll get through it.”

Whatever, I thought. He’s a grumpy old man. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

I never forgot his words, though, and over time I came to see the wisdom in them. Parenting can be joyful and amazing, but it can also feel like a crisis, an intensely difficult time that calls on us to make challenging and important decisions.

I get it. I really do. As a clinical social worker, I have extensive experience helping my clients understand and address the issues that make it hard for them to parent the way they want to. As a writer, I have researched and written two books on mindfulness and parenting, as well as numerous articles on everything from the importance of Good Enough Motherhood to why Hello Kitty doesn’t have a mouth. Most importantly, as a mother, I deeply understand the joy, confusion, frustration, and fear that are an inevitable part of parenthood.

Raising our children is the most important work that many of us will ever do, and we can’t do it alone. I provide support, education, and psychotherapy to parents with a variety of concerns, from anxiety to work/life balance to parenting when you weren’t parented well. Together, we will identify the challenges that you are facing, as well as a plan to help you find the clarity and create the change you want for yourself, your children, and your family. My style is casual, humorous, authentic, and non-judgmental, and my clinical approach is eclectic, relational, and active. In addition, I have training in mindfulness-based and psychodynamically-grounded work.
